A people-pleaser is someone who finds it
hard to say no to others and earnestly tries to please them. Someone who cares
a lot about whether other people like them and feels good to be liked by
others. People-pleasers appear to be selfless, kind, and generous. They strive
to please everyone because oftentimes they are trying to appease themselves.
Jesus Christ loved, served, healed, and
gave all of Himself to save people from their sin, but He was also not afraid
to say what needed to be said, even when people got angry. He rebuked religious
people in public for their hypocrisy and their lack of faith (Matthew 23). He lived to glorify, obey, and please
the Father.
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:29 KJV
The apostles told
the truth and obeyed God, rather than acting on the opinions and expectations
of others, they were not afraid to tell the truth to the people.
But
Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of
God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
For we
cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
Acts
4:19,20 KJV
The gospel of
Jesus Christ, is the only gospel. The Bible says if anyone preach any other
gospel unto you let him be accursed. The apostle Paul did not please men but
rather served and lived for Christ.
As we
said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you
than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
For do I
now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men,
I should not be the servant of Christ.
Galatians
1:9,10 KJV
People-pleasing is
sin. People commit idolatry when they create a god in their minds to suit themselves
by seeking approval from human beings rather than seeking God. When we meditate
on God’s word, we will overcome any temptations of sin.
Thou
shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus
20:3 KJV
Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be
any praise, think on these things.
Philippians
4:8 KJV
Even in Jesus'
time, some people believed His message but refused to follow Him because they
loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. People-pleasing can lead
to separation from God.
Nevertheless
among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees
they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
For they
loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:42,43 KJV
We must find motivation by reading and meditating on
the word of God, which tells us that everything we do is for the glory of God.
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to
exhortation, to doctrine.
1 Timothy 4:13 KJV
Whether
therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Corinthians 10:31 KJV
Our goal is to
please God and be led by the Holy Spirit to live in order to honour and please
His name, not to please others or ourselves.
That ye
might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good
work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:10 KJV
You either saved
or unsaved. Jesus judged the people due to their sin. You cannot bribe the Lord
of the Universe. If there’s a sin in your life and you don’t deal with it, He
will deal with you. If you lied, you’re a liar. If you steal, you’re a thief.
If you take God’s name in vain, you’re a blasphemer. If you hate someone,
you’re a murderer at heart. He will judge your heart and your thoughts.
For
there is no respect of persons with God.
Romans
2:11 KJV
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Romans 14:12 KJV
You can be set
free from the bonds of sin and people-pleasing when you repent, believe, and
trust alone in Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. His precious
blood will cleanse you from all sin. You will be filled with the Holy Spirit, born-again,
with a new heart and desire to serve God and please Him. Please read the Holy
Bible daily and ask God to reveal Himself to you through His holy words and
help you obey what you read.
Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:8 KJV
Blessings in Christ,
David & Gay
