GRACE
Grace is the unmerited favour of God. It gives
responsibility (the ability to respond) to those who are dead in sin.
Even when we
were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are
saved;)
Ephesians
2:5 (KJV)
It is directed by God’s sovereign purpose and accomplishes salvation for those who receive it by faith alone.
Therefore it is of faith, that it might
be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that
only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham;
who is the father of us all,
Romans 4:16
(KJV)
Who hath saved us, and called us with an
holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and
grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
2 Timothy 1:9 (KJV)
Grace reflects the all-
sufficient work of the Saviour and therefore, is the only means by which sinners can be saved. Grace must be
exclusive of all works, merit, self-righteousness or efforts to save oneself.
For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
(KJV)
And if by grace, then is it no more of
works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no
more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Romans 11:6
(KJV)
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he
saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
James 4:6 (KJV)
Grace sustains the Christian’s
life and teaches them how to live.
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed
upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not
I, but the grace of God which was with me.
1 Corinthians 15:10 (KJV)
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation
hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this
present world;
Looking for that blessed hope, and the
glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that he might
redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous
of good works.
