DOES SOMEONE GO TO HELL FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE?

DOES SOMEONE GO TO HELL FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE?

Those who are adamant that a person who takes his life is committing a mortal sin and will go to hell are basing their belief on church doctrine rather than on the Bible. Scripture is silent on the subject. There are no verses that say he who takes his own life shall be damned. According to scripture only one sin does not have forgiveness and that is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29-30) That means there is forgiveness for every other sin.

But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. Mark 3:29-30

It’s a downward path that people can find themselves on if they get hurt by someone. It goes like this Hurt, Rejection, Self-Pity, Resentment, Anger, Bitterness grows and it becomes Hatred, brings with it Depression and Suicide. You can see it happening in Scriptures if you follow the life of King Saul he felt rejected he felt hurt by his people “Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands”.

And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. 1 Samuel 18:7

He felt rejected and he became bitter and he got deep depression and he eventually committed suicide. “It’s something you need to shake off” Some quote (1 Corinthians 3:17) which says that “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy.” Yet there is disagreement about what it means to defile the temple. Does this include suicide? Does it include illicit drug abuse (slow suicide), prescription drug abuse, cigarettes (deliberately breathing in poisons that will eventually kill), tattoos, overeating or alcohol abuse?

God forbid that we add to the pain of someone who has lost a loved one through the tragedy of suicide. If we are genuine followers of Christ and have been “born again” (John 3:3) the answer is “No” to does someone go to hell for committing suicide. A believer’s salvation rests on Christ’s finished work, not the final act of their life, because we are saved not by what we do, we are saved not by living perfect lives, we are saved by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Not of works, lest any man should boast Ephesians 2:8-9

For millions who suffer depression and despair there is always hope. Change your mind from unbelief to belief in Jesus Christ from the rejection of Jesus Christ to the faith of Jesus Christ. To believe and trust in Jesus Christ alone and the sacrifice made through His precious blood shed on the cross through His death, burial, and resurrection. God will forgive your sins and grant you everlasting life. The Lord Jesus said:

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth
on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into
condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24

With Blessing in Christ,
